Skiathos (Σκιάθος) is a small Greek island in the northwest Aegean Sea. Skiathos is the westernmost island in the Northern Sporades group, west of the island of Skopelos, and east of the Pelion peninsula.
The island is on average about 12 kilometres long and 6 kilometres wide. Its coastline is indented with inlets, capes and peninsulas. The southern parts have gentler slopes and is where most settlements and facilities are located. The northern coast has more rugged terrain, with Mount Karafiltzanaka (433 m.) as the highest peak.
The main town is Skiathos with about 5,000 habitants, located in the eastern part of the island. Other villages are Kalyvia, Troullos, Χanemos, Koukounaries, and Achladias.
Despite its small size, Skiathos is a popular tourist destination due to its many beaches and wooded landscape. Scattered around the 44 km coastline, it has over 60, mostly sandy, beaches, e.g. Troulos, Vromolimnos, Koukounaries, Asselinos, Megali Ammos and Mandraki.
